I think I've mentioned before that my sister-in-law is quite the accomplished cook. Everything she makes is absolutely delicious! This recipe (compliments of my lovely sister in law) for Fried Dough is no exception. If you've never had fried dough before, you must drop everything you're doing and make this! The bread machine does the majority of the work for you, so it's super easy! After the dough is prepared, simply roll it out, cut it up and deep fry! The deep fryer is actually so much fun to use! We don't have a deep fryer, so we're borrowing my grandma's. I've made the fried dough twice now due to popular demand. ;) (aka, my family begging me to make more after they finished it all!) Warm bites of sweet, soft, deep-fried goodness, they are kind of a cross between a doughnut and funnel cake. These little bites are incredibly fast, delicious & addicting! Give them a try soon!
Fried Dough
1 cup plus 2 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons oil
3 cups bread flour
1/3 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2-1/2 teaspoons yeast
Additional sugar, for rolling
Place all ingredients (except additional sugar) in bread machine pan in order. Run on 'dough' setting. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead 3-4 minutes. Roll out into a large rectangle 1/2" thick. Cut into 1" cubes. Heat a deep fryer to 375 degrees. Fry dough about 2 minutes per side. Drain. Toss in additional sugar. Keep warm until serving. YIELD: about 55 pieces
Have a great weekend!! Come back soon :)

I have never made these but years ago (back in the 80's) when I lived in Nfld., was when I first heard of them. Newfoundlanders would make these whenever they baked home-made bread and they called them Toutons. Sometimes they were made much larger like a pancake! Your little bites look wonderful.
